Is it week 10?

I know, I’ve been silent. Feel like I can’t keep whining…”is he ok”  constantly, but we’re still in that zone.

Yep, still worrying. Gandalf is the dearest boy, and yeah, still trying to do the best for him. In the trolley to the beach, then a bit of a walk, and a swim every day. He just loves the beach. And the river.

Physio on Friday, then maybe we’ll see the vet again. Saw him last week and he thought Gandalf looked good. But he’s started this kinda drop walk thing. He runs like the wind, looks terrific, but the slow walk looks kinda painful.

He’s decided there’s something in the neighbour’s yard under a bush. Spends ages looking…maybe he’s doing too much standing? Maybe.

Sorry to be so down.

don’s apologize for being concerned. it’s obvious how much you love gandalf, and you see each and every thing he does – keeping mental notes and over analyzing like a good mom… but, try not to let the fear steal your joy. enjoy each and every moment with your boy. maybe he’s just been doing too much, and needs some medicinal naps. maybe the physio will help – we loved our acupuncture needles and laser treatments. hang in there!

charon & spirit gayle

I agree with Charon – don’t ever apologize. We have all been there and we understand better than you can imagine!

If it eases your mind any, Zeus had a change in his walk about 1.5 months after amp, too. Right after the amp, he would “hop” his front leg forward and then “hop” both back legs forward at the same time. We then noticed that he seemed to be trying to change over to a more normal “walking” gait with his back legs. After a few days of doing this, he developed a little hitch (for lack of a better word)in one of his rear legs. It looked almost like a little catch where his leg would start to move forward and as it moved he would pull it up really high like he was walking in deep water and then take the step forward. Of course, we worried he had hurt his leg, but it didn’t seem painful and after about a week or so he seemed to get the hang of things and has since then consistently walked normally with the hind legs and hops with the front one.

Good luck! Lisa

It’s hard not to worry — you’ve been through a lot with your boy, but try not to let it consume you. Slow walking is tough for Tripawds — it’s much easier for them to run. And your Gandalf has had a lot of orthopedic issues even without the amputation, so it’s possible that this is his new walk.

Hopefully the physio people can tell you if it’s something to worry about.

Deep breaths — and try not to worry!

Rio’s momma, Micki

Ditto, never apologize, we all have our ups and downs.

I agree with RiosMom, slow walking IS tough on three leggers. Our Wyatt had a low dip in his walk for a long, long time until he got stronger. Maybe 6 months or longer. So don’t feel discouraged, he will get strong, especially with such great care.

So, what’s under the bush, Gandalf?

You guys are so great. Your support is so much appreciated. It really, really helps.

Rio’s mom is right, Meg. Slow walking is harder than running is for our kids. My Sparky trots almost everywhere. His gimpiness only shows when he’s walking slowly.

You are doing absolutely everything imaginable that could possibly be done for Gandalf. You’re a great mom. He’s going to be ok, and so are you.
Breathe!
